Hamstring muscle injuries are the most common soft tissue in most sports.  The consequences are huge for the athlete. Hamstring stains lead to a 4-11 fold increase in a recurrence hamstring.

This power point presentation is the first installment in a series of hamstring strain injures. Initially some statistics on the incidence of hamstring strain injuries is offered.  Then into current limitations in the literature to date and why there are still challenges for the clinician.

The final part of this presentation will look at hamstring anatomy.  Muscle origins, insertions, dual muscle innervations, anatomic variations, muscle fibre angulations with strong reference to the functional implications.  Good understanding of anatomy and function equals better rehabilitation and less re-injury rates.
